Kolping India

About Us

Kolping India was registered under Public Charitable Trust in 1991 based on the shared values/shared beliefs of Adolph Kolping with the sole aim to enhance the capacities of the poor to enjoy the fullness of life although the first Kolping family was formed in 1962 at Worli in India and National Kolping Society of India was officially established in 1981. This process has been initiated through self help strategy. Strengthening the tripartite relationship between the individual, society and nature has been the focused intervention of Kolping India to foster human dignity and integrated human development. A special emphasis is also made on self sufficiency in all aspects of life as the guiding principle of Kolping India.

Kolping has experienced a phenomenal growth in India. Kolping has taken a strong root in the southern states of India cutting across caste and creed. While the resulting diversity is enriching, it has also posted a challenge. The challenge is how the Kolping India connects the units with diverse backgrounds from rural and urban into one family identity. The family concept has been reiterated as the benchmark for Kolping India activities.

Among the members of Kolping International, Kolping India is the largest development support organization in Asia with over 1850 groups known as Family Associations and the second largest worldwide. With a discreet identity of family concept, Kolping India has an edge to reach out to the most disadvantaged through the committed development partners.

Vision

A Just & Empowered society based on the values of blessed Adolph Kolping

Mission

Enhancing the capacities of the marginalized communities in India for holistic development

Strategy

Kolping India primarily works among people who are marginalised and deprived of basic needs through ‘help for self-help’ approach. Kolping India supports the process of identifying and organising the aforesaid people into groups known as ‘Kolping Families’ through partnering with Diocesean Social Service Societies. As the organisation works on a membership model, every person who becomes a member, subscribes to the values & principles of Adolph Kolping and the guidelines of Kolping India.

The Kolping Family comprises of 10 - 20 individuals living in close proximity, comes together to engage in social and economic development activities that benefit the self, the group and the society. Regular savings and lending are an integral part of the group's operation besides initiatives to solve social issues and problems. Kolping India supports the members to improve their quality of life in aspects like – education and skill development, health and sanitation, income generation, shelter support and disaster relief.

Capacity building is a core & ongoing activity that educates the members with new insights and learning. It is done through formal training, seminars and workshops besides informal input sessions during the group meetings. The themes of capacity building programs are broadly classified into group governance, civic awareness and entrepreneurship development . The members are guided and facilitated to access Government schemes and services.

With an emphasis on sustainability and continuity of the programs, Kolping has put in place a financial management system to revolve funds among Kolping Families.
